Geriatric Boot Camp

The Live Long Walk Strong program at Spaulding Cambridge Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, Mass., was designed to promote exercise and physical activity in older adults. The researchers and clinicians have found that physical activity is an important component to overcoming falls and functional decline in older adults. Falls, in particular, are associated with a high level of morbidity and mortality and often result in an unnecessary drain on time and resources.
The program operates under the direction of Jonathan F. Bean, MD, MS, MPH, medical director,Spaulding Cambridge Rehabilitation Center; director of research training and education, Department of PM&R, Harvard Medical School; and director, Research Center for Lifelong Health and Fitness. The program's physical and occupational therapists work with the patients to improve overall health and quality of life.
