The Alzheimer's Association International Conference 2012 (AAIC 2012) will be held July 14-19, 2012, at the Vancouver Convention Centre, British Columbia, Canada.
The conference will bring together thousands of leading experts and researchers from around the world, and feature 2,500 scientific presentations. AAIC 2012 presentations will cover the spectrum of Alzheimer's research, including causes, risk
factors, detection and diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
The Alzheimer's Association anticipates news regarding:
• The latest in Alzheimer's drug trials at all stages of development.
• Emerging roles for imaging and fluid biomarkers in the early detection and diagnosis of
• Alzheimer's disease.
• Alzheimer's/dementia/cognitive decline risk factors and possible risk reduction techniques.
Highlights from last year's AAIC 2011 included:
• A keynote address by French President Nicolas Sarkozy addressing the French National Plan
for Alzheimer's and the importance of a global focus on Alzheimer's disease.
• Research from two studies focused on clarifying the relationship between traumatic brain
injury (TBI) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in two key populations: older veterans and former
American NFL football players
• A new mathematical model of global Alzheimer's risk suggested that reducing the prevalence of
well-known, lifestyle-based, chronic disease risk factors by 25 percent could potentially prevent 3 million
cases of Alzheimer's worldwide, including nearly one half million in the U.S.
