Webinar: Dining with Friends™

"Dining with Friends" is an approach that focuses on dignified dining for residents with dementia. The  "Dining with Friends" program, developed by the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Connecticut, used person-centered care to offer the opportunity for conversation, socialization, fun, hydration and nutrition. This Webinar will describe specific dining needs and the challenges of meeting those needs, for the person with Alzheimer's disease. Details about food choices, place settings, dignity, appealing food choices and the overall dining environment will be shared.

 
 Presenters:

 Kelly Smith Papa MSN, RN, is the Director of Education and Consulting at the Alzheimer's Resource Center. She was a fellow in the 2007 Leadership AAHSA Academy. She authored multiple books and articles and has presented at multiple seminars for healthcare professionals on topics including creativity in staff development, person centered care, culture change, caring for people with Alzheimer's disease and leadership development. She is a frequent contributor to ADVANCE for Long-Term Care Management.

 Michael J. Smith has served as Executive Director of the Alzheimer's Resource Center since 1996 and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. Prior to joining the Alzheimer's Resource Center staff, he was a Manager with Ernst & Young, LLP in their Health Care Consulting Practice. He has a degree in Health Care Administration from Stonehill College and has taught graduate courses in Health Care Public Policy at Yale University. Michael was a fellow in the 2009 Leadership AAHSA Academy. He is frequently asked to speak on Alzheimer's disease and dementia care at national and international conferences.

 Eileen O'Connor Smith BSN, RNC, has been the Alzheimer's Resource Center's Director of Nursing since 1998 and she has worked in dementia care since 1988 in various long-term care settings. Eileen is certified in Gerontology and has held several prior appointments as Director of Infection Control, Director of Quality Assurance and Director of Nursing Services. A graduate of Hunter College, Bellevue School of Nursing, Eileen worked at BellevueHospital in medical intensive care and in the operating room at New York University Hospital. She is a member of the Connecticut Director of Nurses Association (CONDNA) and CANPFA. Currently she is a member of the 2010 Leadership AAHSA Academy.
